Carbs. Perfect for everything.
I like using heart shaped cookie cutters, molds, stamps, whatever. My middle name is Love (seriously), and I’m normally a huge cheeseball. I like to draw heart shaped sriracha on food I give to Michael.
Love love love love hearts *puke*. I make myself sick!
It was our 3 year anniversary yesterday, so I post something heart shaped in lieu of a proper related post.
Moist salmon with a sticky savory glaze, topped with a lively and bright chimichurri.
We don’t eat as much fish as I’d like. Michael is slowly warming up to the idea of fish, although he eats sushi which is a jump. Apparently raw fish is better than cooked! 😛
But since my parents always give me fish, it was time to make some. I’ve never made my own chimichurri before so I grabbed a recipe from epicurious.
We haven’t gone to a real Beer Thursday in forever. But we were finally able to and quickly decided on sushi, as it’s too hot for pub grub.
I have a new soup related love.
There’s this new place down the street that we go for our Pho nowadays, but they have this one type that just blows me away.
It's just you and me noodles. (And Michael) But mostly you an' me.
You know I love spicy, asian-y, cilantro-y, peanut-y, whatever else-y can describe my tastes. This is a dish I’ve started to make much more often because it’s just so easy. And I have not just one, but TWO ways to make this! Golly! (there’s way more ways than two, I might have lied)
I’ve been having a great birthday so far. I have such great friends and they’ve been treating me so well! With food and booze. How kind!
My girlfriend took me down to La Casita on Tuesday for a meal! Her exact words were to “wine and dine me” but whatever.
Rare Beef Pho
I know you’re probably sick of hearing about all this pho I eat, but it really is amazing. It’s the most wonderful comfort food on the planet. Warm, spicy, rich, beefy, but doesn’t leave you feeling heavy and full like other dinners.
We went down to Pho Central on Davie st. We have this problem of wandering up and down Davie or Robson trying to decide what to eat and just end up getting grumpy and hungrier.
Yum Yum Yum
My first real meal in my home! We have been eating out a lot. Specially pho at this one place, I think we’ve gone every second day =/
I threw together a quick curry using Glico curry. Which is my favourite instant-ready-to-go curry. The jarred ones always taste…odd.
Just a quick post before bed!
I made a sundried olive and rosemary focaccia and pasta with italian sausage, fire roasted tomatoes, mushrooms and fresh basil!
Focaccia recipe here:http://raptortoe.com/2010/10/06/tomato-focaccia/ Just replace tomatoes with same amount of pitted sundried olives and throw in some rosemary.
For the pasta, sautee two italian sausages removed from the casing until browned, add 1/2 cup roughly chopped mushrooms.
Add 1 can of fire roasted tomatoes, or just diced tomatoes, strain if too much liquid. Cook and reduce until thickened, season with salt and pepper.
Add a small handfull of fresh minced basil and toss with your favourite pasta!
Such a good last minute idea!
Today I’ve left the house 3 times, washed and folded 3 loads of laundry, done 2 loads of dishes, made burgers, potato salad, guacamole, these puppies and banana bread.
So in the interest of my sanity I wasn’t going to post this.
But since it was SO good, and I had some okay lighting, posted it is!
Or as we say "Noodo-box".
This is probably one of my favourite restaurants. It’s simple, delicious and consistent. I think I really love it because I don’t eat there often, it’s always something to look forward to, and taking transit to Kits isn’t really my most favourite thing to do, so it doesn’t happen often.
Will make again, and again.
I don’t wanna call these thai, maybe moreso “thai inspired”, or “east asian inspired” but whatever. They’re DAMN good and that’s all that matters.
Rare beef Pho! Beautiful colours, but not quite there yet.
I can’t get enough Vietnamese food. Plus most pho goes for under $7, and affordable amazingly delicious food is generally a good thing.
So I wanted to try and make it. I’ve tried before, and it was kinda..eegh. This time was better, but still not perfect.
Perfect little bites!
I gave Michael instructions on how to throw together a slow-cooker chili while I was at work, and made these as soon as I came home!
I got the recipe from Serious Eats, but it’s a simple recipe I’ve made before! They just inspired me 🙂
A portrait of a dinner.
I love making my own salsas. Pineapple salsa is my allll time favourite. But this is a good one too. Ugh. Peach salsa is awesome too.
Check out my tan!
I had a long weekend off this Thanksgiving, but since I had two dinners in a row on Sat and Sunday, I decided to go another direction with Monday. I took out some ground beef, and gave Michael a few options, and we ended up with nachos!
So I ended up happening upon a tub of Creme Fraiche (only slightly expired) and a sliced open box of pappardelle. (Thanks GW) And since earlier this morning I took out a piece of salmon for dinner..
I made some delicious pasta!
Yay! Putting two and two together is fun, isn’t it.
First, you gotta bake you some salmon.
This was our last breakfast before we moved. We didn’t want to buy any groceries, nor spend any money. So I had to improvise with what was in the freezer.
We had french fries, the big fat ones. Steak fries? Frozen breakfast sausage, some green onion and some parsley.
Ice Ice, Baby
So we went for Chinese food for lunch down at “The Hub” at SFU. Which is basically a few crappy restaurants that are never open when you want them to be and you’re forced to eat there as there’s nowhere else to go.
After we waited in the post office forever to mail something ;), we headed a few doors down and grabbed some lunch. I had the basics, sweet and sour pork, beef and broccoli and chow mein. Now it was fine Chinese food, I always prefer the MSG laden, neon coloured slimy coated Chinese food. As I’ve noticed the healthier versions just never seem to taste right. They’re always lacking flavour and texture. And if you’re going to eat Chinese food, it might as well taste like Chinese food, instead of similar to something you’d make at home.
..Go go go! More!
