Surprisingly AMAZING! Is that a thing people say?
I had some chickpeas for falafel rehydrating, and I thought I’d take a shot at making pita bread. First time ever. I always risk making things I’ve never made before, but dinner always seems to turn out. Now that I’ve said that, I’ll probably burn the kitchen down next time!
These are a must make. MUST! Must make, and eat immediately after making. So awesome.
Carbs. Perfect for everything.
I like using heart shaped cookie cutters, molds, stamps, whatever. My middle name is Love (seriously), and I’m normally a huge cheeseball. I like to draw heart shaped sriracha on food I give to Michael.
Love love love love hearts *puke*. I make myself sick!
It was our 3 year anniversary yesterday, so I post something heart shaped in lieu of a proper related post.
I guess this is more of a pull apart bread, but whatever. I think monkey bread has to be “gooey” or something? 😛
I wanted something to go with spaghetti and meatballs, so I came up with this.
Yeah these were good AND easy!
So I went to Donalds Market earlier in the week and they had whole cartons of peaches for $2.99! So I had to buy them and I had to make something.
We needed one of those...uh.. "Rejuvinatin' Greasy Breakfasts" to counter an over consumption of a certain type of liquid.
We headed down to the Slocan for some All Day Breakfast. I had never been there, and yelp said it was alright. The only other “close as we want to walk” was some placed called Tom and Jerry’s, which features a banner of some Budweiser girls from the 90’s and boasts about $4 awful beer on tap. (not that I judge, I’ve been to many a scuzzy place, they’re just reserved for french fries and karaoke).
This isn't a coffee flavoured cake, it's a cake you eat with coffee!
This is a type of cake my mother used to always make. Especially when we had fresh plums! This works great with any kind of fruit, and the base is incredibly forgiving.
I'll show YOU who's crazy.
So I made a roast beef in the middle of summer. You might say blasphemous, but I say delicious!
We’re lucky because of this new place, I’m not limited with what I can cook depending on temperature. It’s always nice and cool down here 🙂
Just a quick post before bed!
I made a sundried olive and rosemary focaccia and pasta with italian sausage, fire roasted tomatoes, mushrooms and fresh basil!
Focaccia recipe here:http://raptortoe.com/2010/10/06/tomato-focaccia/ Just replace tomatoes with same amount of pitted sundried olives and throw in some rosemary.
For the pasta, sautee two italian sausages removed from the casing until browned, add 1/2 cup roughly chopped mushrooms.
Add 1 can of fire roasted tomatoes, or just diced tomatoes, strain if too much liquid. Cook and reduce until thickened, season with salt and pepper.
Add a small handfull of fresh minced basil and toss with your favourite pasta!
I flipped as soon as I saw this recipe. Such an awesome idea!!
I wanted a good cherry recipe, and since everyone else is making clafouti, I went the scone direction.
Will make again, and again.
I don’t wanna call these thai, maybe moreso “thai inspired”, or “east asian inspired” but whatever. They’re DAMN good and that’s all that matters.
Spicy and doughy! Just like me!
Payday isn’t until the 10th, so I’m still working with what I got.
You all know about my Sriracha obsession, but did you know we also have a problem with Frank’s Red Hot?
Unexpected bills sometimes make you broke, as a result of one we’re a bit broke until next pay. So, for frugality’s sake, I’m going to dig into the recesses of my cupboards to make dinner for the next few days. I am only going to use what’s in my pantry/freezer/fridge.
I probably should’ve done this a long time ago, there are a lot of random things in there… I think I need to do a “cupboard inventory” just to make sure I actually USE what I have!
I’ve been bad lately. I have so many things to post about, but have been really lazy. The busy-ness at work has finally subsided, so I’ll be good and post lots, I swear! Plus michael starts working again soon, and I’ll have $$ for more food related frivolities!
Perfect little bites!
I gave Michael instructions on how to throw together a slow-cooker chili while I was at work, and made these as soon as I came home!
I got the recipe from Serious Eats, but it’s a simple recipe I’ve made before! They just inspired me 🙂
Smells like movie-theater popcorn and toasts like brioche!
I can’t make soup and not have bread. Or crackers. Mostly bread. And butter. Mostly butter.
I loves me some bread and vinegar!
I love no knead bread, and try -“try” to always have a big batch of dough in the fridge at all times. But sometimes it’s hard to keep a big bucket in the fridge, when other things could be going in there. Like, I dunno, vegetables.
Go HERE for the No Knead dough recipe!
Perfect Sunday breakfast!
We are pretty much grocery-less in this house, need to go do that tonight.
I did what I could for breakfast! I always seem to have flour and leavening agents. But I was lucky enough to have a tub of sour cream kickin’ around as well!
One of the few (good) greasy spoons we have!
It’s been a long time since I’ve been to Bon’s. I used to go quite often when I lived off Commercial Drive, but living in in Burnaby near Metrotown, it’s a bit of trek. This is where you go for cheap, greasy breakfast. This place has been around forever, and you see regulars, Veterans, families, hungover teenagers, everyone flocking to this place. It’s generally super packed on weekends, not a long wait if you’re willing, but it’s def not bad for a visit during the week.
Bright yellow paint on the walls, random movie posters, and tons of signatures/doodles on the walls. And you come here, ONLY for the breakfast special.
I really love these things. Soft but chewy, top them any way you want. So great. Especially warm out of the oven!
This recipe comes from the book “A Passion for Baking”. A really great book I use all the time.
I love cheese platters. But again, I’m influenced by my European roots. I would rather have a cheese/meat platter for dinner, with fresh baked bread, oh man. Than any other regular dinner.
I used to make TONS of cheese platters when I worked for catering. So the more you make, the better you get I guess. This wasn’t one of my best, but I’d like to share a few tips. Maybe you can share some for me!
These are by far my favourite muffins. They have EVERYTHING in them, but are still absolutely delicious. Moist and flavourful! Perfect for an easy breakfast.
