Roast Beef in August

I'll show YOU who's crazy.

So I made a roast beef in the middle of summer. You might say blasphemous, but I say delicious!

We’re lucky because of this new place, I’m not limited with what I can cook depending on temperature. It’s always nice and cool down here 🙂

Dark Chocolate Cheesecake with Peanut Butter Drizzle

Michael LOVED this!

I haven’t made a cheesecake in forever. This originally was going to be a vanilla cheesecake with sriracha swirl. But once I made my “sriracha syrup” it was too garlicy for what I was going for, and well.

I WANTED CHOCOLATE!

Pho Central on Davie St

Rare Beef Pho

I know you’re probably sick of hearing about all this pho I eat, but it really is amazing. It’s the most wonderful comfort food on the planet. Warm, spicy, rich, beefy, but doesn’t leave you feeling heavy and full like other dinners.

We went down to Pho Central on Davie st. We have this problem of wandering up and down Davie or Robson trying to decide what to eat and just end up getting grumpy and hungrier.

Garlic Beef Sausage Curry

Yum Yum Yum

My first real meal in my home! We have been eating out a lot. Specially pho at this one place, I think we’ve gone every second day =/

I threw together  a quick curry using Glico curry. Which is my favourite instant-ready-to-go curry. The jarred ones always taste…odd.

We’re in!

Gheh.

Okay.

That move was potentially disastrous, from almost not having a truck (TGFBrothers), to arriving to a less than clean suite. But we’ve made it, we’re in. Maybe 60% unpacked (we have to buy some furniture so some remains in boxes)

So be patient! I will make it up to you. I have the next week off, as the 10th is my bday, and who works on their birthday?

Crazies. Only crazies.

So I’ll have TONS of time to cook, bake and photograph!

On that note I ask, what do YOU eat after you’ve moved?

We had pho (of course). Then late night wine induced pizza (which, was the most delicious panago take out I’ve ever had in my life)

Moving!

I can totally carry a chair on my head.

I’m going to be AWOL for the next week as we’re moving! Not far, just further into the city. But I’m busy packing and have most of my kitchen in boxes right now! Basic food and takeout for now! See you soon!

Simple Pasta Dinner

Delicious!

Just a quick post before bed!

I made a sundried olive and rosemary focaccia and pasta with italian sausage, fire roasted tomatoes, mushrooms and fresh basil!

Focaccia recipe here:http://raptortoe.com/2010/10/06/tomato-focaccia/ Just replace tomatoes with same amount of pitted sundried olives and throw in some rosemary.

For the pasta, sautee two italian sausages removed from the casing until browned, add 1/2 cup roughly chopped mushrooms.

Add 1 can of fire roasted tomatoes, or just diced tomatoes, strain if too much liquid. Cook and reduce until thickened, season with salt and pepper.

Add a small handfull of fresh minced basil and toss with your favourite pasta!

Chevre and Mushroom Zucchini Boats

Such a good last minute idea!

Today I’ve left the house 3 times, washed and folded 3 loads of laundry, done 2 loads of dishes, made burgers, potato salad, guacamole, these puppies and banana bread.

So in the interest of my sanity I wasn’t going to post this.

But since it was SO good, and I had some okay lighting, posted it is!

Watermelon Raspberry Granita

An easy cool treat for those of you enjoying summer right now!

I made this granita a while back, it was beautiful when I made it! The weather’s been crap since!

Super Simple White Sangria

OH ho ho ho.

I’m baaaaack!

Sorry for the long time away, I had rent and a damage deposit for a new place come out on the same cheque, so I’ve been a little tight on cash. Which generally means I’m eating beans n’ rice. But all is well and I can have my sangria and drink it tooo!

The Garburator

He ate it, I didn't. My god.

I’m not really sure how this came to be, but a Starbucks run turned into this atrocity.

Two ginger molasses cookies with peanut butter, sandwiching an apple fritter.

Noodle Box!

Or as we say "Noodo-box".

This is probably one of my favourite restaurants. It’s simple, delicious and consistent. I think I really love it because I don’t eat there often, it’s always something to look forward to, and taking transit to Kits isn’t really my most favourite thing to do, so it doesn’t happen often.

Cherry White Chocolate Scones

So good!!

I wanted a good cherry recipe, and since everyone else is making clafouti, I went the scone direction.

Thai Turkey Burgers with Broccoli Slaw

Will make again, and again.

I don’t wanna call these thai, maybe moreso “thai inspired”, or “east asian inspired” but whatever. They’re DAMN good and that’s all that matters.

It’s only a game.

I think this picture says it all.

I’m just gonna take a quick break from food posts to post this.

As some of you may know (or may not know), our hockey team made it to the 7th game of the stanley cup finals against Boston.

We lost. And many fans (or some would say non-fans) decided it was a great idea to destroy the city.

The riot was worse than the one we had in 1994. For the same reason. Losing a hockey game.

Drowning in a sea of lunches!

Totally me.

Ugh I’m so busy and so tired I just want a sandwich and a nap.

Mostly a sandwich. But I don’t wanna make it.

Michael has started his dream job, which includes 12 hour shifts, 4 days on, 4 days off.

But that means I’m making him breakfast, lunch and dinner + snacks to take to work (and still work my full time job). So I’m a little tired.

Atomic Pudding

So chocolatey gooood!

This is a very special recipe, for one, it’s a vintage recipe, but it also has a great story behind it.

Why is it called “Atomic” pudding you ask?

Franks Red Hot Bread

Spicy and doughy! Just like me!

Payday isn’t until the 10th, so I’m still working with what I got.

You all know about my Sriracha obsession, but did you know we also have a problem with Frank’s Red Hot?

Stop – Pantry time!

Mushroomy Goodness!

Unexpected bills sometimes make you broke, as a result of one we’re a bit broke until next pay. So, for frugality’s sake, I’m going to dig into the recesses of my cupboards to make dinner for the next few days. I am only going to use what’s in my pantry/freezer/fridge.

I probably should’ve done this a long time ago, there are a lot of random things in there… I think I need to do a “cupboard inventory”  just to make sure I actually USE what I have!

Lemongrass Chicken

Perfect for the bbq! Srsly!

My favourite is Pho, Michael’s favourite is lemongrass chicken. (although he’s been ordering pho lately, I am a converter of all. The United Church of Beef Broth.)

So for my wonderful, amazing, mass amount of chicken consuming- significant other. I decided to try making it!

I’ve made it with packet lemongrass mixes before, but it never tastes right. Nothing from a package ever tastes right.

An attempt at Pho

Rare beef Pho! Beautiful colours, but not quite there yet.

I can’t get enough Vietnamese food. Plus most pho goes for under $7, and affordable amazingly delicious food is generally a good thing.

So I wanted to try and make it. I’ve tried before, and it was kinda..eegh. This time was better, but still not perfect.

Cheddar Sriracha Swirl Bread

Gorgeous!

I’ve been bad lately. I have so many things to post about, but have been really lazy. The busy-ness at work has finally subsided, so I’ll be good and post lots, I swear! Plus michael starts working again soon, and I’ll have $$ for more food related frivolities!

FRIVOLITIES!

Can you guess what day it was?

What a gorgeous day for a $4.75 beer! $4.25? I don't remember, doesn't matter!

Happy Beer Thursday! I’m pushing for this to become a holiday, but we’ll see.

We headed down to Belgian Fries today!

Sriracha Tortilla Chips

Yes! I did.

I bought some corn tortillas to make tacos for dinner one night. Was great, but I ended up with (and still have) a TON of them left.
